The integumentary system has a various range of functions; it may serve to waterproof, cushion, and protect the deeper tissues, release wastes, and regulate temperature, and is the attachment site for sensory receptors to perceive pain, sensation, pressure, and temperature. In most land-dwelling vertebrates with significant exposure to sunlight, the integumentary system also offers for vitamin D synthesis.

Blood is a body liquid in human beings that convey important substances, for example, nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste items far from those same cells. In vertebrates, it is made out of blood cells suspended in blood plasma. Plasma, which constitutes 55% of blood liquid, is generally water (92% by volume) and contains glucose, mineral ions, proteins, hormones, carbon dioxide and blood cells themselves.

Track: 16 Cancer Anatomy and Physiology

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. In the body, there are trillions of cells with various functions. These cells grow and divide to help the body function properly. Cells die when they become old or damaged, and new cells replace them. Cancer develops when the body’s normal control mechanism stops working.

Old cells do not die and cells grow out of control, forming new, abnormal cells. These extra cells may form a mass of tissue, called a tumor. Some cancers, such as leukemia, do not form tumors. Cancer has a complex Pathophysiology.

Pathologists are physicians who are concerned primarily with the study of disease in all its aspects. This includes cause of the disease, diagnosis, how the disease develops (pathogenesis), mechanism and natural course of the disease. They also deal with biochemical features, progression, and prognosis or outcome of the disease.

Track: 18 Psychology & Neuro-biology

Psychology is a subdivision of behavioral neuroscience that studies the neural mechanisms of perception and behavior through direct manipulation of the brains. This field of psychology takes an empirical and practical approach when studying the brain and behavior. Most scientists in this field believe that the mind is a phenomenon that stems from the nervous system.

By studying and gaining knowledge about the mechanisms of the nervous system, physiological psychologists can uncover many truths about behavior. Unlike other subdivisions within biological psychology, the main focus of physiological psychological research is the development of theories that describe brain-behavior relationships.

Track: 19 Physiologies of Growth and Development

This chapter reviews the influence that endocrine hormones have on the growth and development of insects. The mechanism of action of none of the insect hormones is known with certainty, and it is postulated that they may act at several of the many possible control points.

As several orders of insects are separated widely in evolutionary time, it might be that growth hormones do not act uniformly in all insects. The classical scheme of endocrine control of molting and metamorphosis in holometabolous insects has been plagued by questions raised as a result of contemporary investigations in the functioning of insect hormones.

An exception to the classical scheme is the finding that renewed secretion by the brain is not always needed for each molt. Insect neurosecretory cells appear to play important roles in many other physiological processes. One important question that needs answering relates to the regulation and mechanism of synthesis and release of neurosecretion in insect cells.

The activity of α-ecdysone—arthropod hormones that are produced by the prothoracic gland in insects and that trigger molting and metamorphosis and are synthesized from cholesterol—and various side chain deoxyecdysones is partially because of their metabolism to β-ecdysone.
